  7.  
  8. Ordinary DOS and Windows file deletes are NOT secure. The file is
  9. merely marked as deleted but the data in the file is still sitting
  10. on the disk. Any undelete program or disk scan program can access the
  11. data on the disk.  It remains that way until another file happens to
  12. overwrite the disk area.
  13.  
  14. Garbage Can will take care of the security problem that occurs with
  15. an ordinary file delete. We GUARANTEE the deleted file can NOT be
  16. recovered.

  19.                                                                     VERSION
  20. We maintain no version number since we can not seem to keep track
  21. of them anyway. We track our projects by date. The date that appears
  22. on this documentation and in the 'About' dialog is the release date.

  25.                                                                     OPTIONS
  26.  
  27. The program options can be selected from the menu or by using
  28. command line options. The options are:
  29.  
  30.     Confirm Delete (Default = On)
  31.     ------------------------------
  32.     A dialog box will appear prior to the file being deleted. You
  33.     will be asked to confirm that you want the file deleted. When this
  34.         option is turned off, the file will be deleted without confirmation.
  35.  
  36.     Secure Delete (Default = On)
  37.     ----------------------------
  38.     By default, this program will delete a file as designed. By
  39.     turning this option off, an ordinary DOS file delete will be
  40.     done. This can save a considerable amount of time in a large
  41.     file but of course, you give up the security.

  44.                                                      COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
  45.  
  46.         -C    Turn 'Confirm Delete' option off.
  47.         -S    Turn 'Secure Delete' option off.
  48.         -I    Start program as inactive icon.

  50. You can add these options to the command line in any order or
  51. fashion. For example, GARBAGE0 -CS would turn the 'Confirm' and
  52. 'Delete' options off.

  55.                         VERSION FOR WINDOWS 3.1
  56.  
  57. The version for Windows 3.1 is GARBAGE1.EXE and will not run in
  58. earlier versions of Windows.
  59.  
  60. GARBAGE1 runs the same as GARBAGE0 but has one added feature.  It
  61. allows you to 'Drag And Drop' files from the Windows File Manager
  62. program on to the GARBAGE1 minimized icon.  Any file dragged on to
  63. the icon will then be processed according to the way you have the
  64. program options set.

  70.     Salem, Oregon.  If there is no date in the About dialog,
  71.     you have the first version.

  95. Garbage Can is distributed as Shareware. As such, you have a chance
  96. to review the program to determine if it fits your needs. This does
  97. not mean the program is free. You are expected to pay the small fee
  98. to register your program if you continue to use it.
